Mary Schmutte Instructor

Mary Schmutte

Weaver for over 40 years!

I have been weaving for over 40 years. I am self taught rug weaver. Then in 1986, I started taking classes and became hooked on weaving with finer threads and exploring all the wonders of fiber.

I have always loved to create and started sewing at age 5 as I have never been shy about trying something new. Over the years I have tried many aspects of fiber including crocheting, knitting, kumihimo braiding, spinning, felting, and dyeing. I still keep coming back to my love for weaving and seeing what I can create with my handwoven fabrics.

I have published patterns for double woven dolls and critters along with teaching this technique and others.

After moving to Florida in 2010 I became active in Weavers of Orlando. It didn’t take long for me to figure out that I loved to share my experience in weaving with others.

One of my goals is to have new weavers understand that there’s really no right or wrong way to do something in weaving as long as it works for you and you get the results you want.
